Bax said it was good to have her back, and some portion of her brain recognized how much of a huge step that was. When he'd first found her in that escape pod, shivering, and had promptly fetched a blaster, she'd had doubts. But now, it was good. That was more of a stride forward in relationship terms than she'd ever had. And this time it was on the basis of being genuine. It wasn't required of her to act around him, just to be herself. Her gloved arms stayed wrapped around him, her wet body up against his wet body, and she just held him. His hands strayed to her ass, feeling and squeezing, and she didn't mind it one bit.
Then had to go asking about the logistics of the whole thing, and Kara was a little annoyed he was ruining the moment with it. She didn't want to talk about making it a quickie, she just wanted to have him there, to feel him, to hold onto him.
"Later," She replied tersely, but the sweet warmth of her second set of words surely made up for it. "Just hold me tight now."
Kara adjusted her position sideways, and lay right against Bax, carefully dipping her montrals to slide behind his head rather than taking an eye out by accident. Her cheek was rested on his shoulder, her legs slightly intertwined with his. And her arms still tightly wrapped about him.
Even if she couldn't find the words, the message was there unspoken. Genuine affection. Love even.

Kara's response was at first hilarious and then terrifying by the end to Bax. He nearly snickered under his breath at the all too familiar tone she used to shoot down his suggestions. It used to irritate him when they'd first met, but now it was kind of expected. The togruta's occasional jabs at the ideas he bounced off her helped filtered out the worse ones most of the time, so he was happy to have the constructive criticism.
Bax's terror rose ironically from her innocent desire to be held. Eating, fucking, business and talking were basically the activities he'd come to expect from his partnership with Kara, but cuddling seemed an almost foreign concept to him. The junker had long accepted their relationship for what it was, mutually beneficial and fun, and had grown to enjoy things how they were. His partner's request seem to indicate that things had changed. To him, cuddling was something reserved for someone you loved.
Bax didn't know for sure how to feel about this, he'd never planned on being loved by Kara, or really anyone for that matter. The frightening part was that he wondered if he really knew what love felt like. The junker had heard the word misused and thrown around so much, that he'd almost forsaken its used altogether. His family were the only folks he used it for in recent memory.
Still, Bax felt something for this woman when she laid her head on his shoulder. It was an odd mix of happiness, contentment, attraction and longing to always be by her side, facing the harsh galaxy together. The only label that the junker could put on this collection of feelings was love. So, yes, Bax loved Kara. A whole hell of a lot too.
"I love you, Kara." Bax stated with conviction as he leaned over to kiss one of her montrals, forgoing the 'forgive me for being forward' bit he thought about adding to the front. That addition would've just diluted the moment of truth.

Things had grown so much larger and stranger than Kara had ever expected. From wandering alone, all the way to this, to having a partner she did things with, it was quite the stride forward. And there'd been a time when she would have seen it as going backward. There was no mistaking how this would've played out without Bax. Alone, stuck in Hutt slavery until hell froze over. Or worse, noticed by Derne. No, it was all Bax that had given her a chance of escape. The time for working alone was over. As her warmth mingled with his, Kara's mind ran about in circles.
How often had she ignored the future? Savings? Finding a place to settle? Being old? Infirm? There were so many of these little mundane things she'd totally overlooked. It was like discovering an entirely new room inside a building one had known for years. How could she have been so very blind?
Bax leaned over, and kissed a montral. Gently, sweetly. The touch of it was tingling, electric, not merely because of location, but because of what Bax said.
The Togruta didn't say anything in response, she just smiled and hugged him tighter. He'd know it was shared. She'd prove it to him.
