Name: Rinaasta Kul
Aliases: Rin, Rina
Age: 18-24ish
Race: Togruta
Skin: Dark, burnt Orange.
Eyes: Orange
Birth Place: Meroda, Iyal Province, Shili
Occupation: Queen of the Jungle
Height: 5’7 ( 6’7 with montrails )
Weight: 140 lbs
Languages: Togruti, Speaks Basic
Appearance:
Standing 6’7 with her montrails, possessing a powerful athletic build, with legs that look like coiled springs, well defined musculature and her distinctive blue and white lekku, Rinaasta is quite a lot to take in. Rina’s dark, burnt orange, skintone is typical to her species. The woman’s face sports white markings that go around her eyes, staying in the sockets, and extending out the corner and tapering until they touch her montrails. Where they go “up” to meet at the bridge of her nose, they continue up, tapering to a point near the top of her forehead. The woman has high cheekbones, a well defined, if narrow, jaw line and somewhat pointed, well defined chin, a well proportioned, slightly upturned nose, full expressive lips, and bright, round eyes that are orange in colour. Her smile can be intimidating, her species predatory nature has gifted them with oversized incisors, her left one missing the bottom third or so of it’s length due to her falling out of a tree.
Her fingers end in sharp, tapered, dark brown nails that more resemble claws without the downward curve. They’re about 2cm from the tip of her fingers, and finish in a curved tip, each one being roughly arrow shaped. They grow at a rate of about 1cm a week and are fairly sharp. Most Togruta who live off Shili tend to keep them under control, Rin prefers hers to be longer so she can use them as “tools” for carving up her hunted game.
Oddly, her right foot has white, slash markings covering most of it, and her left does not.
Rina typically wears a brown leather bikini style top, a thong, and a knee length loincloth. It covers the front and back, but the sides of her legs and hips are exposed. If required, she’ll wear a simple linnen shirt to cover her top half.. Rinaasta wears a necklace with some of the teeth of the animals she’s killed strung on it, mostly predators, among a few other necklaces with intricately carved figurines for good luck and such. She’s got a few, multi coloured, twine bracelets on her right wrist, and a few on her left ankle.
Physically, Rin has an athletic build, with good muscular definition and very little fat, the woman looks more like a runner than a body builder. Her bust isn’t huge, but that’s how she likes it, as if it were it’d make using a bow more difficult and running far more uncomfortable. The woman’s arms and back look more like they’re sculpted than grown, being obviously products of a life practicing with a bow and climbing trees and generally being extremely physically active. Her midsection, shows good definition. No six-pack, but she’s definitely not sporting extra fat or a muffin top. moving lower, she’s somewhat “hippy” and bottom heavy, a product of being on the move more often than not, her legs showing a decent amount of definition due to this.
Her measurements are 34C(37)-24-42
Gear:
Rin typically wears her quiver full of arrows on her right hip, hanging from a simple leather strap. Ahead of the Quivver is the holster for the woman’s bowie style knife. She wears her long bow across her chest left to right, with the bow bit over her back, the string across the front. Strapped with simple leather bands to her left calf is a six inch bladed knife, just in case. From right to left is a linen shoulder bag she made, to carry food or water along with her more easily. In addition to all this, Rina is nearly never seen in the forest without her trusty spear. It’s the same height she is, made of sturdy wood with a broad headed, razor sharp durasteel tip.
Rinaasta’s spear is crude but extremely effective, it’s nearly 7 foot reach giving her a large advantage over most of Garqi’s predators. She’s also deadly accurate with it when using it as a throwing weapon. The knife was a gift from Lyra, she got it from a Stormtrooper for helping him fix his speeder. Rinaasta made the bow on Garqi out of locally available wood (using only an axe and her knife), having done so on Shili numerous times. It’s not uncommon to see Rina booting around her camp with an Axe instead of her other usual weapons, and it can typically be taken as a sign that she’s doing something domestic. Cutting wood, or carving something, the axe is typically a sign she’s not “on the prowl”.
Personality:
Rinaasta was raised to be a hunter, a hunter, who with bow and spear, and friend, can take down animals Mandalorians wouldn’t stand toe to toe with. An apex predator, gifted with the skills and in built advantages. The confidence that they are the masters of their domain because nature intended it. She has a sort of quiet resolve, that no matter what she comes up against, Rinaasta will find a way to defeat it.
The woman’s not easily frightened, nor is she easily surprised. Rin is one of those people who isn’t afraid of predators generally, pink skinned sentient ones included. She’s also very social, preferring to spend her time “around” people, be them her own kind or not. That being said, if she feels you are some kind of threat ( which, at least at first, she feels all non-Togruta are ), then the woman is liable to keep her distance, quietly.
Be it a sub-conscious, evolutionary adaptation, or simply “sizing up” a target, in that situation it’s advisable to approach her and start talking to her. About anything. Particle physics, the price of Caf on Klatooine, the weather, it doesn’t matter, just talk to her and she’ll realize you’re not a threat and just want to be friends.
Something that should be noted is that Rina has an “urge” to kill things. If Rin is denied the chance to go hunting, she gets a bit loopy and is liable to chase after dogs. She wouldn’t hunt a person, but anything non-sentient is free game if she’s not been “let out”. The way she explains it is like being horney, just way way worse.
At her core Rin’s a bit of a loner, oddly. Be it because of the time spent away from her Village, or just who she is, the woman tends to form strong bonds with a few people. She doesn’t really, and never has, had a large group of friends. Among people she’s unfamiliar with, Rin’s pretty quiet and standoffish, gaining her trust isn’t something that’s easily done. It’s also something you should consider the consequences of ahead of time. Once she’s a friend, and her guard’s come down, Rin never shuts up.
Also, as a consequence of her upbringing, she has a “what’s mine is yours, and what’s yours is mine” attitude. This is generally fine if all participants are Togruta. Her best friend, however, is a Twi’lek, and she’s living in and around a refugee camp full of humans and other species mainly. Rin’s working on getting better with not raiding her friends fridges, but it’s still a bit of a process.
Notes:
Can't read Basic, but she can read Togruti, but she’s never had anybody explain Aurebesh to her, though she’s memorized the shape of a few words and knows some basics like “Danger” or “Stop”.
Bioioioioio:
Rinaasta Kul was born in Meroda, a small fishing/farming village in the equatorial regions of Shili, in 22-28 bby, to a pair of loving parents. She was their second child, their first having gone to the Jedi a few years previously. Just like her sister, Rinaasta was force sensitive, easily enough to have been trained as a Jedi if found. Unlike her sister, however, a Jedi wasn’t “In the neighbourhood”, and she went unnoticed. Because of this, she was raised as a regular Togruta.
Basically, this means she learned to hunt, fish, some basic farming, and how to kill thimars with her hands. She lived a pretty standard tribal life. Days started at sunrise, and finished at sunset, mainly due to the lack of tech they had available. There were the odd communicators in the Village for notifying authorities of injuries and picking up the “moon reports” on a daily basis, but they tended to trust their “wiseman” on the moons more than the Republic.
Her parents were hunters, generally, though they did have a small plot of land they grew various vegetables and fruits on, to supplement their diets with and make booze. Growing up in this environment, and near the sea, led to her becoming extremely adept at both hunting in a forest with her bow and spear, as well as spear and bow fishing in the ocean. Generally, her days were spent doing one of the two until mid afternoon.
Rin also learned some of the practical skills of living in the wilderness, how to make a basket out of branches, or a net. How to make her own bow from wood using an axe and a knife. She became adept at making simple articles of clothing out of the linen they got by trading some of their food with other villages.
When she was 15, during a hunt with some of the other youngsters of her tribe ( ranging in age from 15-16), she became separated. This typically wouldn’t be a problem, and the “Moon Forcast” for the night was that they could easily spend it out there so long as they were up a tree, the water wouldn’t get above a meter, tops.
Well, the Empire’s inaccurate forecasts bit them in the butt. They weren’t able to predict the situation correctly, and one meter turned into ten. The trees the group of 4 were sleeping in were very quickly uprooted and all of them swept away. Rin was on watch at the time, and tried to alert the rest, managing to wake them up. When the water hit, she clung onto a floating log, eventually passing out.
The girl woke up nearly 30km inland from where she’d started, in totally unfamiliar territory, with no idea how to get home, mainly because she had no idea which way home was. It was, in her young mind, the realization of her worst nightmare. She was stuck, had no idea where, with only her knife. More importantly, to her, with nobody else. After spending her entire life in close proximity to her tribe, and coming from a very social people, the silence was oppressive.
Eventually, after a few months, Rin had gotten into a routine, with a simple camp setup and having managed to make an axe of sorts out of a sharp rock and a tree branch, she’d focused on hunting to calm her down and make life bearable. The act giving her a sort of calm and focus on the task, and without fail pushing her anxiety about being alone and lost away. Given it’s temporary effect, Rin had to hunt a lot, which she did. The woman became ever more adept at utilizing her spear rather than her bow, which she’d favoured prior to being stranded.
In the absence of others to watch her back while she was in the wilderness, Rin’s senses sharpened, as did her innate Force-based abilities. She went from a passable tracker to truly incredible, her sight and hearing became so good she could pin-point the sounds of a target through the din of the jungle. Her abilities for a Togruta who still didn’t yet have her Montrails fully grown were impressive. Far beyond those of any human, but still not quite as good as the very experienced hunters who had the famous Togruta “sixth sense”.
The months spent alone did take a toll on her psychologically. Rin, during her time away had focused so heavily on seeking the “calm” of the hunt that it’d become her go to way to relax. Rinaasta found hunting to be a very therapeutic, and calming action that helped her work through issues, as opposed to the usual Togruta way...talking about it. In a society focused on “the group”, she’d become an individual.
Eventually, after nearly a year, a hunting party from a Village 50km away from hers stumbled across her. Initially, Rin thought she was hallucinating, and decided to follow them to see what they were. If they were spirits trying to guide her towards something or if they were trying to trick her. It took a few days, but she realized they were actually alive.
Conversations petered out after a quick exchange, Rin was more helpful than she ever remembered being going out and picking up firewood whenever needed to simply get away. The girl was simply disinterested in what was going on with them, her mind preoccupied with how to quell the rising anxiety she was feeling being around them.
The journey home wasn’t overly long, the Villages elders pointed out on a map where her Meroda was and she was off. In 5 days she simply walked back into her village, to a slack jawed and confused reception. After her parents lost their minds they explained the situation. Apparently, the other 3 she’d been with had all died, they’d found the bodies on the shoreline a few days later. All except hers. After sending search parties into the jungle for nearly 3 months, they had to resign themselves to the fact that their only daughter had suffered the same fate.
Without a body, they burnt an effigy...and all her stuff...and committed the funeral rites, then moved on. The now 16 year old Rin was, oddly, not angry, resentful...anything. She couldn’t bring herself to feel anything about the it. The woman was thankful her parents were there, and that they opened their door and let her have her room back, but there was a sense of unease.
It wasn’t that Rin was antisocial, but more that she was just not nearly as social as a typical Togruta was. Coming from a very social species that valued communication and openness, this was garring for most of the tribe. The notion that Rin was simply more interested in going hunting, alone, was at best confusing, and at worst downright insulting. Her year alone, practicing, and honing her skills, both force based and otherwise, had made her a far better hunter than most of her peers.
To her mind, they slowed her down. Plain and simple. It wasn’t personal.
However, with a species as social as hers, it quickly became that. By the time Rin was 18, the woman was something of a pariah. A few of the Villagers did still like her, over the time she’d been back Rin had learned how to make a bow from one of the elders. Perhaps in an effort to find out whether or not she was a forest spirit or actually...Rin.
She proved beyond a shadow of a doubt she was, indeed, herself, when she was in the forest with said elder, testing the bow. She shot an arrow and stuck a Thimar to a tree and went to retrieve the arrow. About half way up the tree, the woman lost her footing, and tumbled to the ground, smacking her face on the way down and chipping the bottom off her left canine tooth. It wasn’t enough to make it fall out , but the tooth getting chipped, and the blood were enough to convince the Elder that Rin was indeed not an evil spirit.
Though the elder managed to convince anybody who asked she was indeed real, the woman was still unpopular. Rin’s preference for hunting alone, her awkwardly direct way of dealing with people, and lack of interest in finding a mate, all conspired to make most people in the village believe she was “deficient”. The fact she was feeding a good chunk of them with the food she brought back from the Ocean or the Forest most days wasn’t really considered, just the fact she prefered to be alone.
However, not all was bad during this time. Rin’s Montrails came in fully, and she had started to recognize her force sensitivity to some degree. The Elder helped her develop it to give her Jedi-like reflexes, allowing the woman to quite easily capture arrows out of the air. Axes and Knives as well could be thrown at her and she could easily catch them. He taught her a very rudimentary form of meditation when she was hunting to be able to take advantage of her gift so she could sense animals around her and pinpoint targets better. Combined with her spatial awareness granted by her montrails, she was a force to be reckoned with when hunting.
After awhile, Rin’s ticket offworld presented it’s self.
After having to dodge imperial inquisitors twice, Rin was informed of a sanctuary being setup on a planet in the northern part of the galaxy. Due to the fact that the last time an Inquisitor came around, he actually stopped at the village and questioned everybody, coming to the conclusion that he'd merely sensed a presence in the vicinity, but couldn't pin it down, Rin having taken off a good distance away, she decided it was a pretty good time to go.
The Village wasn’t fond of her, and she wasn’t overly fond of it.
The process was fairly simple, Rin would be given faked ID info, a false name, and a few credits, and told to board a transport offworld with no more than a bag of her own possessions. The idea was she’d be flown to the sanctuary, where she’d be safe from the empire until they fell or she died.
What actually happened was she was flown on a discount airline, who’s idea of an inflight meal was a packet of peanuts ( something she’d never eaten before and found delicious ), and a small cup of water. Add to that the million and one connections, continually crying babies, and the fact that the Airline went out of business while she was on her final layover on Garqi, and Rin’s situation wound up far different from what it was supposed to be.
Now, living on Garqi, a little outside the refugee camp, Rin typically is found either hunting, or surfing her friend Lyra’s couch when it’s raining. Rin met Lyra by chance, and immediately liked her. Lyra didn’t care Rin was a bit of a loner, nor did she care that Rin was Togruta, Lyra being a Twi’lek herself. Lyra was one of the few on Garqi who were nice to Rin, not weirded out by her intimidating smile or the fact she ate her food raw. Basically, Lyra accepted the adorable Togruta without expecting anything of her, initially because of pitty, and eventually because the pair have personalities that just “click”.
As it stands right now, Lyra and Rin have something of an “arrangement”. Rin can use Lyra’s apartment and it’s couch whenever she wants. So long as she can get Lyra meat when she wants it and help her get some to trade with other people, as the resource is fairly scarce. Rin’s also not supposed to raid Lyra’s fridge, but that’s a rule Rin’s found many a creative way around, her love of Eggs and something called “carrots” overriding her ability to follow it.
Extra Shit:
Ages are approximate, nobody ( herself included ) is ENTIRELY sure how old Rin actually is. It's not like the Toggies have birth certificates or something, so according to the doctor on Garqi, she's a healthy female Togruta between the ages of 18 and 24.
