Image: If you don't know what a Wookiee looks like, I don't know what you're doing on this site.
Appearance:
Gaarchiir is a member of the Rwook subspecies of Wookiees. This means that the first, and sometimes the only, thing to notice about him is the fact that his fur is a brilliant chestnut color, with only a bit of black highlights around his arms, shoulders, and face. Some of these black highlights hide a narrow pair of eyes, a kind blue in color, and warm to look at. You wouldn't notice it if he was standing alone, but among other Wookiees Gaarchiir is actually quite tall, and as a bit of extra weight to him as well.
Like most Wookiees, Gaarchiir doesn't wear much in the way of clothing. He has a bandolier strapped from one shoulder to the opposite hip, which carries a large, brown, leather bag on the hip. Gaarchiir wears a harness around his shoulders, to carry his large ryyk blade on his back as well. The harness straps fit well under the bandolier. Other than that, Gaarchiir has an olive drab poncho, but it is only worn in extreme weather. Even then, sometimes the Wookiee forgoes the extra protection as wearing it means he can't carry his blade.
Personality:
Gaarchiir is by very definition a ‘gentle giant’. Despite the Wookiee’s immense height and strength, you'd be hard pressed to find someone more kind and caring than Gaar. Slow to anger and easy to cool down, he has rarely ever shown the infamous wookiee rage. Likewise, Gaar is an extremely hard being to put down. His spirits are always high, despite most circumstances, and the Wookiee is always the first to laugh, and the last to stop.
Really, if you can't get along with Gaarchiir, YOU'RE the issue.
This all being said, however, Gaarchiir is a fierce warrior and an extremely loyal friend, like most wookiees. And like most wookiees, he has a good sense of honor. He always stands by his word, no matter what is thrown at him, and makes a point of keeping promises. This goes hand in hand with a high but simple sense of morality - namely not killing unless provoked, and no stealing from people who need it. Gaarchiir is the type of person who'd put his neck on the line for a complete stranger, if it was the right thing to do. How far this would go, however, remains to be seen.
Gaarchiir is a capable pilot, but by far a better mechanic. In fact, Gaarchiir is an exceptional mechanic, to the point that most starship captains don't know whether to use the Wookiee as an engineer, or muscle. This comes from having worked under his father on Kashyyyk, who was also a mechanic. Also, even by human standards Gaarchiir is quite pain intolerant, flinching and growling at the slightest bumps and bruises. However, an ice-cold Ruby Bliels at the end of the day always makes everything better for the Wookiee.
History:
Born in 44 BBY, Gaarchiir was the first child of the Wookiees Bowdaar and Quagga, a mechanic and a healer, respectively. Gaarchiir grew up in the coastal city of Kachirho, and lived there for his whole childhood. Later on, Bowdaar and Quagga had two more sons, first Fahraark, and then Vryyr. However, Vryyr was found to be Force-sensitive at birth, and was immediately sent to become a Jedi. Gaarchiir was only about five at the time, and too young to understand what had happened.
However, it was because of Vryyr that Gaarchiir and Fahraark grew up very close as brothers. They learned everything together. They went to school together (or whatever the Wookiees have for ‘school’). They hunted together. The only places that Fahraark and Gaarchiir differed on, in fact, was that Gaarchiir was more inclined to learn his father’s trade of tinkering on ships, and Fahraark was more inclined to learn their mother’s trade of tinkering on people.
This distinction would be the primary cause of the two brothers drifting apart during their teenage years. They just went separate ways, was all. Gaarchiir would skip hunting or other lessons some days, and help Bowdaar around the spaceport. His father wasn’t exactly happy about this, to be sure. But he figured as long as Gaarchiir was being useful and actually learning something, there was little harm in it.
As Gaarchiir grew into a young adult, another Wookiee would enter his life in a major way. A young woman, about his age, caught his eye. Her name was Tyvokka, and they had first met on a hunt, in the Shadowlands. Tyvokka played hard to get, but Gaarchiir was persistent. She led him on for a long time, but eventually, the young woman gave in. The two were dating almost a year after they had met.
And it wasn’t long after this, that the Clone Wars broke out across the Galaxy. As Kashyyyk was, at first, inclined to sit this galactic war out, Gaarchiir wasn’t too phased by the War. But as Kashyyyk became threatened, and the need for warriors increased, his conscious started to nag at him. Gaarchiir enlisted in King Grakchawwaa’s army, alongside his brother Fahraark, which brought the two Wookiee’s back together.
Both Gaarchiir and Fahraark participated in the Battle of Kashyyyk, during the Clone Wars, which took place right outside their home of Kachirho. Both Wookiees fought fiercely to defend it. Had the battle ended in the Wookiee’s favor, they would’ve more than likely been highly decorated. But that wouldn’t be the case, as just as the Separatist were retreating, the Republic turned on the Wookiees. Gaarchiir and Fahraark were on the front line when this happened, and when the chaos erupted behind them, the two Wookiees were given enough warning to scatter with the rest of the army.
Tyvokka, who was at this time engaged to Gaarchiir, was killed when martial law was declared, as were Bowdaar and Quagga who tried to fight back. This left Gaarchiir and Fahraark with only each other to depend on, and for almost a whole year, the two brothers retreated deep into the Shadowlands, away from the new Empire as they decided what to do next.
Then, in 18 BBY, Kashyyyk saw war once again. The Wookiees rose up to do battle against the Empire, and Gaarchiir and Fahraark were summoned by what was left of King Grakchawwaa’s army. Once again, Gaarchiir and Fahraark fought bravely, but Fahraark was cut down in the climax of the battle by stormtroopers.
Once the small rebellion ended, Gaarchiir hid out from the Empire once again. Trading rare skins he had gathered while hunting to a merchant for safe passage off of Kashyyyk, Gaarchiir soon found himself on Tatooine. From Tatooine, the Wookiee hired on with a freighter crew, hopping between ships and crews and never staying anywhere for long.
