Name: Jov’vruum O’lars
Species: Twi’lek/Miki Boska Hybrid
Faction: Miki Boska
Rank: Senior Retriever
Age: 37
Height: 1.95 Meters
Weight: 96.5 Kilograms
Faceclaim: Chris Pratt
Appearance:
Jov’vruum is a Miki Boska, or at least half of one, anyways. But his genes tend to favor the Boska side. As such, he always just refers to himself as just a Boska. And being a Miki Boska includes a certain set of traits that’s exclusive to the subspecies. This includes things such as Jov’vruum’s height, and weight. His lekku are long, perhaps not as long as some other male Boskas’, but long enough that they reach the lower portions of his back when they’re not wrapped around his neck, as they commonly are. Another Boska trait that Jov’vruum’s body as taken advantage of is the natural increase to muscle mass. Jov’vruum isn’t some muscle-bound freakzoid, but rather, something just a little less than that. The Twi’lek works out constantly in his down time, and it shows.
However, one distinctly un-Boska trait that Jov’vruum possess is his skin color. Rutian Twi’leks are extremely uncommon among the Boska Fleet, and Jov’ just happens to be one of the few blessed with the light blue color. This, along with the fact that he sports more human like ears rather than cones, unlike most Twi’leks, is the only thing that really shows through about his hybrid ancestry. Needless to say, it makes Jov’vruum stand out among the Boska Fleet, but not so much out in the Galaxy.
Boska’s commonly had tattoos. Every Boska knows this. It’s their way, and there’s nothing wrong with tattoos. But most Boska usually only have one or two, maybe three at most. Jov’vruum isn’t most Boska. He could never decide on a color. So now, he resembles something close to the Boska’s version of a rainbow. To keep things simple, each and every one of Jov’vruum’s tattoos is in the nordic design. One that stands out the most is on his right shoulder, reaching from his upper chest and all the way down to the back of his hand. This tattoo is an intertwining pattern of green, red, and white, the red and green being the very first two colors that Jov’vruum’s mother chose for him when he was born. The Twi’lek’s left shoulder is symmetrical to his right, but with an intertwining pattern of gold and silver instead. The third and final tattoo is wrapped all around Jov’vruum’s lekku, down his jaw line and across his chin, staying out of the way of the man’s face, for the most part. This one is pure orange. But everything glows black and blue under a UV light.
It seemed that as long as Jov’ was paying, no one cared how much he inked up his body.
Jov’vruum’s most signature piece of clothing is his maroon leather jacket. Waist length and with more hidden pockets than it lets on, the jacket isn’t usually far from Jov’vruum. Under the jacket sits a long sleeved shirt, plain, usually grey, tan or white. Below the shirt is a pair of black pants, rugged and durable, suitable for anything from combat to simply matching the whole outfit. These pants are held up by a simple brown leather belt, with two holsters on each side, which rest on Jov’vruum’s hips. On his feet, the Twi’lek wears boots that match his jacket. But these aren’t just any old boots, mind you. They’re REPULSOR boots. Reaching just below his knees, they were taken off of a dead Nimbus guard during the Clone Wars, on Jabiim.
On his back, Jov’vruum wears a sort of messenger bag. The front strap comes down across the Twi’leks chest, while a second strap wraps around his waist. The bag itself doesn’t hold a lot of space, commonly filled with either various types of grenades or mission sensitive items, including candybars. Also in the bag is Jov’vruum’s mask. The mask feeds the Twi’lek a heads-up display, tracking the trajectory of his grenades or his flight path when he uses his boots. It also protects him from flashes of light, concussive forces, and toxic chemicals; all common features in the grenades he employs. Both the mask and the bag are usually only seen when Jov’vruum knows that he’s going to see combat, which is more often than not.
Personality:
Jov’vruum is one of, if not the most, successful Retriever the Boska has had in recent history. That being said, Jov’ is the most un-Boska, Boska that any Boska can be, while still being considered a Boska. Truly, if the Twi’lek was any less Boska, his headtails would pop off, and his skin would turn pink. For starters, the man is rather introverted, avoiding big parties in favor of smaller gathering of only a few people, even going so far as to avoid the annual Grancha Hasas, since the disastrous one on Abregado-Rae. This also lead to his decision to stay on New Cov, away from the fleet and out where he believed he could work best. Jov’vruum is also something of a ‘lone wolf’, preferring to work alone while on a mission or job instead of a team.
Despite this, however, Jov’vruum wholeheartedly believes in the Boska’s cause and way of life, stopping just short of the whole religion thing. Both the Miki Boska and the Retriever wear their hearts on their sleeves, getting too invested to quickly, willing to help anyone however they can, Twi’lek or not. Especially if it’s concerning a child. Sad kids break Jov’vruum’s heart right in two. Being a Retriever for the Miki Boska is what Jov’vruum considers his calling, and he wouldn’t trade it for doing anything else.
Upon first impressions, Jov’vruum can seem like a big kid that never grew up. He is naturally upbeat, sarcastic and somewhat goofy, always looking on the bright side of things. Candy, most of the time chocolate, and his music player and headphones are never seen far from his side. And when he’s alone, or at least when he thinks he’s alone, Jov’ can be found dancing to his music, preferring soft/classic rock and some pop songs. The Retriever can be very inventive when he wants to be, thinking out of the box and coming up with very unorthodox solutions (and sometimes a quick word) to sticky situations. Though, Jov’vruum has no problem blasting his way out, as well, when no other option is present.
But all this goofiness also acts like a shield, as it shows the galaxy the sort of person that Jov’vruum wants to be, but feels that he isn't. And it hides long held, bitter hurts that Jov’ isn't good at dealing with. Instead, everything is stored deep down, to be dealt with another time. He prefers to focus on the now, leaving problems of the past unresolved if need be as they can hurt too much. For those few who can get Jov’ open, he becomes a quiet, somber man.
Jov’vruum has proven time and again while out in the field that he can be extremely heroic. Though, the Retriever can be just as humble as well, and when asked about his actions, such humility will come out. He simply answers with thing such as “I was only doing my job/duty”, or “I was just doing what was right.”. The last one, at least, is always true; for in every situation Jov’ will always do what he thinks is morally right.
But every hero has his downfall. For Jov’vruum, its women. And romance is a very complicated issue for Jov’. Given his skin color, females practically throw themselves at him when he's at the Boska Fleet, which is something he takes advantage of. There has been few actual romances in his life, most ending on account of his dangerous work. But Jov’vruum refuses to give it up, telling himself that when the right one comes along, she'll support what he does. But until then, he's content with all the sleeping around he can get.
History:
In 41 BBY, a Boska Retriever by the name of Jov’vruum Tailacki found and saved a Twi’lek slave on Nar Shaddaa named Sinya O’lars, who had been enslaved to a self-proclaimed human “doctor”. Jov’vruum made sure that the doctor and his malpractices were no more, and Sinya accepted his offer to return to the Boska Fleet with him. Putting was medical knowledge she had gained from the Doctor to use, Sinya became a nurse in the Fleet. A year later, Jov’vruum and Sinya were engaged to be married. And finally in 38 BBY, The couple had their first and only child, a boy with his mothers blue skin and his fathers name.
About the time that Jov’vruum Junior was about two, his father disappeared on a dangerous mission, presumed dead. Sinya had been pregnant once again, but upon hearing the news, she miscarried the baby. This left only her and Little Jov’. And instead of shutting off and grieving, Sinya did the opposite. She turned all her attention on her son, and Jov’vruum became her world. With her husband presumed dead, both boy and mother reverted back to the mother's maiden name.
For the most part, Little Jov’vruum grew up pretty normally in the Boska Fleet. He was a little smaller than most his friends. And his name was a little funny. But the boy was fun to be around, when he wasn't being a little pistol as most young kids can be. Jov’vruum’s childhood friends soon shortened his name to just Jov’, which stuck worse than Space Gorilla Glue. Sinya made sure that Jov’vruum had the best education and home that she could manage, alone. All in all, the boy was just a normal Boska kid.
But Jov’vruum, much to Sinya’s dismay, asked a lot of questions. A lot of questions concerning their family. All his friends had both parents and tons of siblings. Why didn't they? The boy had never seen a situation like theirs, when there was only one parent and one child. And because Sinya loved her son so much, she gently and kindly told Jov’vruum all he thought he could handle. One thing the woman shared was her love of music, and the songs that she and her late husband used to listen to. Soon enough, Jov’ was never seen without his music player, an heirloom from his father.
But all good things must come to an end. And Jov’vruum’s mother was one of those good things. When Jov’ was nine, Sinya found out that she was terminally ill, and there was nothing the doctors on the fleet could do. They tried to takd her planetside, to New Cov, but it was too late. Needless to say, Jov’s first time planetside was hardly pleasent. He was too distraught to take it all in. And as his mother died on New Cov, leaving Jov’ hurt, sad, angry, and alone, the boy darted out of the hospital and into the city, only to run headlong into a large Twi’lek with Boska markings.
It was Jov’vruum Senior. The man hadn't died, instead, he had been imprisoned for nearly nine years and had only recently escaped. The older Jov’ had headed to New Cov, and while there, heard that there was Boska planet side. Going to investigate, Jov’ Junior had ran headlong into him. In an instant, the father knew who the little boy was by his Rutian skin. But Jov’ Junior only had hazy images of his father and didn't know the man from any other Boska. Still, finding another Boska, Junior clung to Senior as Senior got the boy to calm down and tell him what happened.
Learning that Sinya was dead was a heavy blow for Senior, but he took Junior back to the fleet. Once there, everything was revealed to Little Jov’; that the Boska he found was really his father. Confused and hurt, it took Junior awhile to process everything. Meanwhile, Senior settled in and started taking care of the boy in earnest.
When Jov’ Junior was a preteen, Senior started his training in earnest. Junior wanted to be a doctor. That what his mother had been, or close enough. But Senior was barely lucky he knew which side of the band-aid to use. So Senior taught Junior what he knew - to be a Retriever. Needless to say, the training didn't go well at first. Junior grew frustrated quickly with the sparring, and that frustrated Senior. They were just too similar to get along well.
But then Junior tried his hand at blasters, and things changed. The kid was naturally good with a gun, in particular a pistol. Hitting the bullseye (or at least close) more times than not greatly improved the Kids tone about Retriever training. Jov’vruum Senior encouraged this, however, he didn't let any other skills be forgotten, either. Little Jov’ would soon learn the purpose of having all these skills, and not just a few.
When Jov’vruum was fifteen, his father finally took him out into the field. Mygeeto was an industrial world, in the heart of the ever-growing Separatist Movement, and the sort of place that if you moved enough money and didn't make a lot of noise, no one looked too closely at your forced labor. Jov’ Senior had been keeping his eye on one man, a Muun businessman, in particular and decided now was time to strike as well as time for his son's first real test.
Jov’vruum went into his first mission more nervous than he thought possible, and Senior did nothing to help calm the boy. Instead, he tried to teach Little Jov’ to focus his anxiety. It didn't really help. Staying behind his father and doing as he was told, the mission went relatively smoothly. The Muun was dead and his slaves freed. But this mission would also mark the first time that Jov’ Junior shot someone. He took it surprisingly well, which somewhat worried his father. But the older Jov’ let it be.
The two continued like this for about a year, never really getting along at home but making a good duo out in the field. Jov’vruum Junior quickly got his nerves under control, and soon enough found purpose and fulfilment in being a Retriever. It was work he could be proud of. And as such work often kept him away from the fleet, the teenage Jov’vruum had little chance for friendships or romance. So instead, he threw himself into his work.
As Jov’vruum turned into a teenager, the Clone Wars broke out across the galaxy. Though the Boska Fleet as a whole stayed out of the conflict, Jov’vruum Senior saw it as the opportunity of a lifetime. Everyone was too worried about the War to watch their slaves. Using up the few contacts he knew, Jov’ Senior was able to broker a deal with the Republic’s Military Intelligence; mercenary work for intel on slaves and slavers on the front lines.
As such, teenage Jov’vruum saw more action in those three years than most Boska ever would. He respected the clones, but never quite grasped how they were all one person, and treated them like individuals. A couple of the clone captains taught young Jov’ how to use two blaster pistols at once, because they liked him so much. But the Jedi were weird, always cryptic and alert.
There was one Jedi, though, that the young man liked. A human female, about his age, named Myra. Myra was different, more of a goofball, kind of like Jov’ was. And both were quite witty as well, with Myra being one of the few people able to leave Jov’ speechless. Myra became Jov’s first love, though everything was so complicated as Myra wanted to reciprocate the feelings, but couldn't. She tried to convince Jov’ to move on, but he wasn't able to do so.
So while Jov’ and his father weren't doing Republic Intelligence’s dirty work, they were traveling, hitting planets often only a few weeks before the main invasion force as they freed not only Twi’leks, but all species. They visited planets such as Kashyyyk and Mon Calamari, disrupting the Separatist enslavement of the native species there. They hit small Separatist supply lines, interrupting trade and reinforcements for the Confederacy as well as looking for forced labor workers. They were always moving, with young Jov’ never knowing where they'd be tomorrow.
About two years into the war, Jov'vruum had the worst luck in the galaxy. What was a simple pitstop on a little mudball named Jabiim turned into the bloodiest battle he had ever seen. The Republic landed, and Jov’vruum and his father went to them at once. Proving that they worked with the Republic, they tried to leave the planet, but were quickly denied. So instead, the two Boskas offered up their services to the Jedi in charge.
This was when Jov’vruum first heard of repulsed boots. The Nimbus Guard, who supported the Confederacy, flew around with them. And watching them once, Jov’ quickly decided he needed a pair of these “freakin’ awesome” (as he would put it) boots. Killing one of the Guards, Jov’ was sure to loot the boots. But they didn't fit. So he got another pair, and they were too big. Finally, though, the third pair was just right.
But despite Jov’vruum’s new kicks, it soon became clear that the Republic was losing this invasion. Nevertheless, both Boska son and father hung in with the Republic through the end. And at the end, they were abandoned, just like the Jabiimians that served with the Republic. Throwing in their luck with these people, as the Confederacy made it impossible to leave the planet just yet, Jov’vruum Senior and Junior did what they could to help. But it wasn't long before Jov’vruum Senior was killed in battle, and Junior was left alone, once again.
Keeping something small from his father, as was Boska tradition, Jov’ took his father's dagger, a kukri. But he didn't know what to do with the body. It broke Jov’s heart, but he had to put his father in ground, promising himself and his father's spirit that he would come back some day, dig up the body, and send it out to Space, again, like tradition.
It wasn't long after this that the Republic invaded once again. This time it was successful. But Jov’ was less than pleased to see them. Revoking the deal that his father had set up with the Republic’s Military Intelligence, Jov’ parted from them. Leaving the Republic to their own war, Jov' Junior went the only place he could - home. The Boska Fleet. Exhuming his father's body, he took the ship, and left Jabiim for good. The Boskas gave Jov'vruum a warm welcome, and the young man wasted no time in having a proper funeral for his father. After that, it was back to business as usual.
After Jov'vruum came back to The Fleet, he met a starfighter pilot named Alema'O'ta. The two hit it off well, and in no time they were married, and Alema was very pregnant. Jov' and Alema had a daughter, which they named Hirani. As Jov' chose the name, Alema chose Hirani's first tattoo color - green. And true to the tattoo, Hirani showed an early affinity for flight, just like her mother. For a long time, things were happy, and perfect, aside from Jov'vruum always being away from The Fleet, due to his duties, especially when the Empire sprung up. But if Daddy being gone a lot was the only thing they had to worry about? They had it pretty good.
Then Abregado-Rae happened.
Hirani was a teenager, at this time. Jov'vruum and Alema had another child on the way, not soon enough to tell if it was a male or female yet. Unsuspecting, the whole Boska Fleet landed on Abregado-Rae for their annual Grancha Hasa. And the Empire attacked, ambushed them in a surprise. The whole thing was chaos, and Jov'vruum did his best to keep his family together and safe. However, Alema was killed in the crossfire. Saving Hirani, the pair escaped with the retreating Fleet.
Since the Grancha, Hirani and Jov'vruum have grown increasingly distant. Hirani devoted herself to her duties as a pilot, and Jov'vruum left the Fleet a lot, to track down lost Boska. Both carried baggage of Abregado-Rae, of loosing their respective wife and mother, and both chaffed when together and they tried to talk about it. Jov'vruum now has little say in his daughter's life, as she's in her early twenties.
Miscellaneous Crap:
I suck at Personalities... And Appearances... And Apps in general. This is basically how I want the character to be, with more to be likely filled in via RP
Equipment -
SB-17 Heavy Blaster Pistol (x2)
MPCV Mask
The Gambit
Kukri
Repulsor Boots
In addition to the above equipment, Jov' always has a healthy dose of grenades on him, including (but not limited too) cyrobans, adhesives, plasmas, shockers, smoke and flashbangs
