"For the last time, noooo..." Bax replied exasperatedly into the console's comlink. The fact the device was so far back on the panel, and replacing it was so far down on his list, to the point he had to lean out of his captain's chair, added mounds of extra annoyances to mountain loads already there. The guy working air traffic control for the gate they wanted to enter was trying his hardest to up sale them to an extended stay pass, but the junker wasn't having none of it.
"Look, I know you're just doing your job, but stop badgering me already. I'll take the rolling day pass, and we have nothing more to discuss, thanks." He fired back next, flipping the comlink off before getting a confirmation from the guy. Bax groaned as he was able to fall back into his chair. Ilic was barely the largest city of New Cov, yet it seemed to have worse air traffic control than Coruscant.
The trip to the planet had been a smooth and fast one, owing to staying in the Mid rim, and the junker had been able to find a friendly contact on the planet, as well as spend more time with Kara. Bax had honestly been having a great time before coming in for approach with the city. With the worse of the nasty business behind them, his mood was quickly returning to that earlier pleasant state.
The Drifter had been doing laps around the domed city so long he almost considered charging the city for fuel. As soon as the designated gate opened Bax went straight for it, as if they were going to slam it in his face. Ilic's skyline was busy with a steady flow of ships and airspeeders, so the junker dialed back his engines back for collision avoidance sake. Overall he liked the place, to him it kinda felt like the handsome bastard of Coruscant's lower levels and the top levels of Nar Shadda. Pretty, but grim all underneath.
His associate/contact was kind enough to give out directions to a surprisingly reputable docking area, for people not trying to draw attention, and it was easy enough to find. The place was just a tall circular building with nothing but parking along its massive length (insert dick joke here). The junker had The Drifter landed, hooked up to refuel and powering down within what seemed like a few minutes to him.
With another perfect landing under his belt, Bax got up from his chair to stretch, just to find himself pantsless. It was puzzling, because he could've sworn he had them on earlier. Then again, he acknowledged that he could've been wrong. Still, it feel kinda weird that he'd gotten up to throw on a teal Gravball shirt and a souvenir cap, currently turned backwards, but no pants. If he hadn't thoughtlessly decided to put on boxer's earlier, the ship's cold temp would've done a number on his balls earlier in the day.
"Hey, babe. Have you seen my pants anywhere....?" He called out, hoping for his girlfriend'skill and her prescence along with an answer.

Sikaara Dey was sprawled in a hammock, it was hung a short way back from the cockpit itself, close enough to be in easy communicating distance, but not so close as to be in the cramped and somewhat uncomfortable co-pilot's seat. The seat had gotten immensely old very quickly, and the swirling vortex of stars that was hyperspace could get nauseating before too long. Also tedious. And the legroom left much to be desired. As did the snack choices. That left a lot of sleep.
It wasn't necessarily Kara's preference to go off the ground for sleep. She liked the ground, the hearty sensation of terra firma. But on the other hand she'd started to adopt a single-purpose philosophy of use for Bax's bed. It made a lot of sense too, given their marginally incompatible sleep schedules. Kara opted to have multiple short period of sleep, and she came and left more frequently. That meant the two lacked the warm, cozy, fluid-drenched 6-8 hours of lovers' rest that most people simply assumed. Cuddling was now a dedicated activity rather than a mere post-coital benefit.
Also the curvaceous red-skinned body of the Togruta woman was kept off the perpetually-messy bulk of the ship this way. Which she liked. Her bare feet dangled off the edge, peeking out from under a skirt more feminine than the pants she usually wore. The leather top was the same as always though.
The atmospheric turbulence had swayed the hammock about, in a very relaxing manner, and so when they were touched down at the heights of a landing bay she didn't exactly rush. Neither did Bax, though his voice sounded from the cockpit, querying about his pants.
The first thought to pass through Kara's mind was 'which pair?' There was an assortment of them, widely distributed. Most of them rather thickly-scented. It wasn't as if Kara could judge, she didn't wash her selection of clothes that often either. They tended to carry her own distinct scent, though hints of musky cinnamon and cardamom were usually on the pleasant side. Still, her mind searched for the most recent pair.
"Try the chronometer, in your room..."
They'd been flung there, more or less, in the 'rapid disrobing' portion of their festivities.
Through the trace of a smile, Kara added a sly comment.
"I wouldn't be heart-broken if they didn't turn up."

It was hard for Bax not to go over to Kara as he passed to join her in that hammock. According to the packet it could support a wookie, so he figured it could hold a stacked togruta and a skinny human. Maybe not for fucking, but definitely for some cuddling. Now was not the time for either, unfortunately.
"Neither would I~....but, the hotel probably would let us check in if I went like this." Her lover fired back, with a blown kiss as he headed towards the living quarters. The funny thing was that after getting in there he couldn't remember exactly what pants he'd though he'd put on earlier. Bax settled on some faded gray cargos, threw on his boots and grabbed his satchel from his messy desk.
The junker turned out the old contents as he walked down the hallway to the main deck again. "You know I love the skirt, but you might want to put on some pants instead. There's a chance we'll be going out into the jungle later." He explained, while digging around on a shelf full of chemicals and med supplies. Bax wasn't going to take any chances with whatever was lurking on New Cov, and started loading his satchel with anti venom, med kits and filtered masks. Oh, and goggles, one could never have too many of those.
With everything nonlethal he planned to bring, he moved over to the explosives shelf to fill up the remaining space. Bax concluded the supply gather with picking up the two huge empty suitcases he and Kara would surely fill during their upcoming shopping spree.
"Hey, mind getting the hatch?" He asked politely, silently hoping there were a cab or two in the area.

"Hotel?" Kara repeated, quietly and mostly to herself. It sounded like Bax was pulling out all the stops. After all she'd imagined precious little more than say, a durable tent or two, some materials, and the jungle. That there was a hotel might have been an annoyance if she'd been alone, but having the opportunity there with company, that sounded pleasant. Very pleasant indeed. She slid out of the hammock noiselessly, and followed Bax to the edge of the quarters.
He emerged in pants, and suggested she bring some as well. Because of the jungle.
The Togruta smiled slyly, leaning in toward him.
"I could live two weeks in that jungle," Her accent precisely embellished each following word with the meticulousness of a surgeon. A very flirty surgeon. "Completely, and utterly, naked."
She kissed him on the ear, and then sidled away, picking up a worn leather pack.
"I have plenty packed here though, but I want to enjoy myself for a while, I'll change when we go outside."
Sikaara opened the hatch as requested, and smiled broadly at the bright rays of sunlight that shone down. Not sharply bright, but warmly so. They shone through the massive transparent dome surrounding a city that was at once a mixture of indoor and outdoor appearances. It was on the small side all things considered, but from the top of this docking pillar she could glimpse the streets of pedestrians and storefronts, the open courtyards, and the lush plantlife grown all over. It was a jewel.
Not a precisely cut gemstone set in fine metals, but the stone itself, roughly chipped and prepared, natural, and yet not.
Kara stepped out onto the warm duracrete of the platform and inhaled deeply. There was a spicy kind of smell, wafting. Mingling scents of spices, food, and the moist smell of plant life. It was precisely what she'd been hoping for.

Bax deviously chewed his lip as he waited for Kara's assistance. She really did have a way with words, a true artist. Check in time be damned, if he hands hadn't been full, he would've spun around to meet her lips when she graced his ear. He would've gladly have paid the late fees to the hotel for the chance to see if the hammock would hold two aggressively writhing people, yet he reminded himself that they'd have plenty of time for that.
Still, it was a pity.
Whether it was hyperbole or not, Bax had few doubts that Kara could last out in the wilds of New Cov much longer than most, maybe even a little longer if the beasts and carnivorous plants went for him instead. Something told him they'd easily pick him out as the physically less fit of the two. The least he could do was give his girlfriend a little more time to enjoy the jungle if it came to that.
For being a basically a death world, New Cov gained the Junker's love as soon as he stepped out into the parking deck. Bax wasn't a nature person by any stretch, yet something about the jungle seemed to scream 'conquer me if you dare!', and he was feeling up to the challenge. Then again, once they got past the thick protective domes he might be singing a different song.
Another thing that stuck out with Bax about New Cov was that it seemed to tout truly utilitarian buildings from what he could see. Coruscant, Nar Shadda and to a lesser extent Soccoro like to think.they had that quality, but they seemed to equated purposely unmaintained with "utilitarian". This parking dock looked surprisingly pristine, and not a single advertisement and condom machine anywhere.
Thankfully cabs seemed to be in a abundance, as the Junker noticed several transports of various designs either parked on the edge of the Duracrete or hovering next to it with repulsers. The one that immediately caught Bax's eye was one of LAAT series gunships, that had apparently been retrofitted for passengers. Rows of seats had been run down the center aisle, the doors had been modded for a better view and someone had painted it bright yellow with racing stripes. This is was just too good to pass up.
"Hey, how about that one?" Bax asked her calmy, masking his bubbling enthusiasm for the moment, motioning towards the gunship.

While Kara was busy surveying the city, her attention was completely unfocused on airspeeders of any kind. She'd have been perfectly content to walk the whole way after all, and she'd not really expected anything other. It wasn't a negative, she was perfectly willing to skip that physical effort. Surely she'd find some... Other ways... to stretch her legs. The yellow-colored craft was just fine by her, and what was more, Bax had a big, stupid grin plastered over his face. It was amusing actually, her own full lips formed a thin smile at that.
He was happy. Really happy with her. It was a feeling of responsibility to her, and that was a little foreign. Before she could have manipulated him into whatever desired outcome she wanted, and honestly she probably could now too. A little voice in the corner of her mind suggested allowing the ride, just as a soft 'trade' item to his favor for better position later. But it was so petty. No, she was fine with it because he was happy about it. It was surprisingly normal. What was more, it was the kind of normal she'd never really had. Not once.
"Of course," She replied. "It's an older model isn't it? Looks very Clone Wars."
Kara was well aware it was a Republic Gunship, but a little benign deception would let Bax have a confidence-boost, and the chance to gush about a piece of technology he adored. It was incredibly obvious, from his smell to the sounds he made. It was also cute. She had to admit, he was definitely endearing.
She'd softened a lot to him over this time. The mess she could live without. She preferred him clean-shaven and in that dazzling uniform, but somehow she was appreciating him more in messy clothes and with stubble. If it was a part of growing older or more mature, well, she could handle that. She could learn to like that. It was definitely more stable than what she'd been through before, but you didn't become an honest type overnight. Benign lies would have to be good enough for the moment. Benign lies and the promise of lucrative illegal work.

"It's definitely a LAAT/i, but I don't know exactly which production batch this once is from. Some of the early ones could break atmosphere. Not this one anymore of course." Bax rambled off to his lover, steadily approaching the technical marvel. They just don't make'em like this anymore. The fact The Empire stopped production of such a fine machine was just more proof it's run by idiots.
Honestly, the junker had a slight feeling that Kara was humoring him with that last bit. She was a very smart, wise and knowledgeable woman, so it seemed unlikely to him she'd never have run into one of the gunships, at least in passing or studies. Still, Bax felt an overwhelming sense of being loved by this act she put on. He mattered enough to her to humor, and it was sweet.
"Yub wannta ride?" Suddenly rang out from the gunship, as an overweight rodian exited the pilot's compartment. Bax was almost disappointed the Taxi wasn't run by a guy in Phase I or II armor, just for added immersion.
"Yes, sir. We need a ride to the Lux Galactica hotel." The junker replied, almost getting a chill just watching the side hatch sliding open to admit them inside. What child of the Clone Wars didn't dream of riding in one of these? His enthusiasm didn't stop him from letting his lover take her seat first, however.
Bax stowed their gear behind some crash webbing towards the back, and quickly took his seat next to Kara. As the doors slid back into place with a firm affirmative 'clunk', he reached over to hold one of her gloved hands. The junker didn't say anything, instead he just beamed a huge grin as the repulsors came to life and the craft peeled away from the curb.

Sikaara was notably disinterested in technology. It was her lamentable Togruti stereotype. Technology was only worth paying attention to in that she could use it, which meant she'd devoted the overwhelming bulk of her knowledge to computer use. A spike or two and some persistence, and she could move small mountains. But when it came to speeders, or ships, or datapads, or the newest comm links, the rusty-skinned woman simply didn't care. Her gaze wasn't interested in faking eager attention, and her green eyes just stared vacantly through the slats at the blue sky beyond the dome.
She felt Bax's hand over hers, through the thin leather of her glove, and she moved her thumb to slightly stroke his hand. He knew her well enough know to have a general idea when she was lying, which meant if she wanted one to stick she'd have to do it more effortlessly than breathing, try to sell it less. Ironic that he'd believe more from her simply saying it than from acting it. Honesty was a brave new world of sorts.
He probably knew she'd been completely disinterested. This close to the warm atmosphere, to the earthy moist smell in the air, how could she not be? It was alien of course, her sophisticated sense of smell could tell in a heartbeat that it was nothing like Shili. But it was still more like home than she could smell in a decade of travel. That made it worthwhile.

As soon as the the gunship's engines gave off their signature whine, Bax sorta lost himself in the moment. He imagined what it must've bee like to be a clone riding one of these things back during the height of the Clone Wars. No seats, flak bursting in the air around you, maybe even being shoulder to shoulder with a Jedi. The junker had never desired to be a front line soldier, but he did envy those clone way back when.
Bax's fantasies dialed back to reality in short order, and he continued to smile while rubbing the material of Kara's leather glove. Truthfully, being in love with someone seemed like a fantasy in the past, but of the two he'd choose being with Kara than being a clone trooper any day.
Ilic was "quaint" in sized compared to most places he visited on a semi regular, especially Nar Shadda, yet from the air seemed to have everything one could want on a planet that size, in an area one could probably completely fit under and Imperial class Star Destroyer. He found something about that admirable, in an ' being appreciative for short distance sleaze' kinda way.
"There she is!" Bax yelled over the rushing wind to Kara, while pointing to a tall pyramid they were approaching. At first it appeared that the structure was constructed of white duracrete with the edges oddly painted a dull green, but as the gunship dove the paint suddenly started to resemble gardens tracing each level. The craft did a spirally descent lap around the hotel, as if just to garner extra on his tip, which showed off the numerous trees and scrubs that made up the grouped botanical gardens for the guests.
Besides being the best in the city, Bax had sprung for the place for the fauna alone. Kara would definitely love it, and these were the only ones for sure he knew wouldn't try to eat his face off.
The gunship gently set down in the off loading area, and the junker was almost sad it was over. Still, he was quickly on his feet as a second, much skinnier, rodian walked down from the cockpit. Before he could even ask, Bax held out a fist of credit chits, more than enough for fare and a good tip for both the pilots. They deserved it.
"Welcome to the Lux Galactica~!" The junker said to his lover, in a showman's voice, complete with faux fanfare.

Sikaara was peripherally quite aware of all the Togruta who'd been Jedi. It was a point of pride among her race, long centuries of service in the Jedi. It was enough so that they'd probably continue using names like 'Ashla' for millennia. The one question that was lodged firmly in Kara's mind was how the devil they could stand the horrible sound of the gunships? It was pervasive, all about, throbbing, humming, roaring. It was deafening. If Bax had been chattering on about the ship she probably wouldn't have heard.
Well, that was exaggeration. She could hear him clearly enough when he pointed at a ziggurat of sorts. But it was more like yelling in the middle of a storm. It was loud and loud mingling, and it gave her a headache.
Mercifully the entire domed city was small enough that they didn't have far to fly, in any direction really. It probably made the job of the pilots much easier. They were down on the ground in a short time, and the engines throttled down into their tolerable idling. It was highly merciful, and Kara kept a very straight face as she stepped out onto the duracrete. Her bare feet touched the surface, and she could feel the warmth of the sun radiate pleasantly in. It brought a smile onto that neutral expression.
Whenever she stopped smiling at that warm feeling, that would be the time to head back into space.
Kara looked about while Bax was paying, her eyes flitting from plant to plant, trying to identify any specific species. There were a few common ones she was marginally familiar with, but what was most impressive was the overall look and feel. There were fountains, plants, architecture, and art all mingling into one fluid sort of form. It exuded luxury in the best possible way, saying that it would provide no-frills quality experiences to those with the ability to pay. Not the fawning kind of Core niceties, but the 'destination' type experiences some would pay extra for.
Bax of course provided flair and showmanship to it, and she didn't rebuke him. Instead she nodded approvingly.
"You did well. This isn't cheap."

Kara didn't know quite how right she was about the Lux G. The place honestly rivalled some of Coruscant's ritziest hotels in terms of price for even a small room. The establishment was vastly overpriced for what the average guest got for their stay, and the suite that he'd booked wasn't that much better in his opinion, especially at nearly triple the price.
Hell, Denga's casino had more reasonable prices.
Bax hadn't really talked his finances to Kara since they'd decided to seek their fortune on New Cov, but his reserves were dwindling horribly. The last few ventures had all been fun and all, yet was were basically financial washes. Logically, sleeping onboard The Drifter until would've been the most economic choice in housing. Still, he'd taken one look at the Lux G and knew that she deserved a better roof over her head, at least for a night or two.
"Thanks, babe." Was all the junker replied, while he got their luggage from behind the crash webbing. Taking the lead, Bax proceeded down the path towards an ornately etched glass and durasteel door, which openly crisply at his approach. The humidity that seemed to rush out of it though felt nearly strong enough to know him on his ass.
The lobby was dominated by a wide bridge of polished wood that lead up to a large, round desk area seemingly of the same timber. To each side of the bridge was an area of foliage that he couldn't decide when bushes or tree canopies from a recessed floor. There was a sound of running water as well, but he had no idea as to where.
Bax felt sorta uncomfortable being this close to nature with a gas mask and a blaster rifle, yet didn't let his discomfort show as they strolled over to the concierge's station. Between a male gotal and a thin female nautolan, Bax went for the obvious choice with who to bother. "Excuse me, miss. We're here to check in, the reservation should be under "Hubbyle".

Kara's head was on a swivel as they walked through the doors. It wasn't that she needed to see where anything was, she could feel the whole room, but her eyes wanted to dance about in the foliage. Over the side of the bridge she could see lush foliage, and peering from below that, what looked like an indoor river. The fusion of foliage and design was so fluid, so effortless, and so skilled that even for her there were few major indicators of the separations. The wood of the bridge under her feet was exquisite sensation.
As funny as it might have sounded, she could have sworn a Togruta had designed it. She could think of rare few souls who could achieve something so fluid. Perhaps an Ithorian as well. Or a Cerean maybe. Certainly it was beyond the ordinary human experience.
She let Bax enjoy the business side of things, and simply wandered the spacious lobby for a few moments. She peered further over the edge of the bridge, trying to gauge the depth of the water. It was beyond her own senses to do that truly well. As a minor mystery it captured her attention. Besides, after jumping from a waterfall on Nal Hutta she'd a little more respect for the depth of water.
The Nautolan front desk employee who Bax had chosen was light blue in color, with a low cut breezy top, and a lot of simple jewelry. She had the same enigmatic smile of so many of her kin, and looked unblinking at him.
"Welcome to the Lux Galactica, Mister Hubbyle, thank you for choosing us. I see you've selected the Arbor Suite level, is that still adequate for you?"
Whatever thoughts she had about the Togruta woman peering down over the bridge, the Nautolan woman didn't say a thing. Of course internally she had the exactly correct idea she was renting a nest to a pair of lovebirds. Wasn't an uncommon story in the slightest.

"Yes, that'll be perfect. Thanks." Bax responded rapid fire, setting down the suitcases for the evitable things he'd need his hands for. Newly formed habit made him quickly give the nautolan a glance up and down, which he instantly regretted doing. Kara was the only woman he really believed could make him happy, but since they first slept together he'd been able to bang other "10's" on a regular basis.
Lyra....Donnie....Ervi....all good women in their own ways, so much so in fact, the Junker had wondered if he'd have fallen so hard in love with them if any of them met him before Kara. Sadly, Bax didn't have a definitive answer for that. Either way, the time for fooling around on business trips was over. This was gonna be hard how things had been going, but at least he'd always have the memories, and a collection of hot and useful friends.
When the receptionist handed over a datapad to get his signature Bax got an internal chuckle at imagining the document to be a sworn statement of his dedication to not cheat on Kara. The keycards he was handed could've been two licenses to love, but he shook that thought off, on the grounds it was unbearably mushy.
There had to be a line.
The junker opened his mouth to ask which way was the turbolift when a distinct chime went off in the foreground behind the kiosk. He nodded his appreciation one last time before picking up the luggage, then began to stroll around towards the back wall. Despite it being a fine piece of engineering, the turbolift doors seemed to designed to compliment the jungle vibe, with large leaf and vine patterns crisscrossing them.
A similar couple, a Twi'lek man and zabrak woman were the ones to exit, were the ones who exit and seemed to be in a rush to leave. Bax had to rush to catch the closing doors with a suitcase shoved between them, yet still decided to let his lover go in first.

Kara stopped peering over the bridge, and moved back down it to follow Bax. His pleasantries were done and they headed over to the lift. He held the door for her, from the outside at that. It was really quite the gesture. It was funny how she noticed things like that. Funny in that it was so foreign to her, and she still noticed it somehow. It had been a learning curve, dealing with human gestures of chivalry. You could say some less flattering things about Shili, but the gender equality was quite thorough. Chivalrous behavior towards women was surprising to her, but she'd grown to consider it a polite gesture.
And it mattered to her that Bax did it.
It wasn't that she couldn't handle herself, but that Bax cared enough to make the gesture.
They'd come quite a ways in a short time, and it was because they weren't bullshitting. Not many people could see right through her lies, but he was one.
She ducked into the lift, holding the door again for him so he could slip in, and she smiled a little.
"This is quite the place, Bax, I'm looking forward to some quality time. You, me, a little peace."
Most of all a little cleanliness, neat space, and absolutely crisp and clean bedding. It was the little things that felt different.

Bax didn't immediately understand what Kara meant by "quality time", his mind tussling with if she meant even more intimate time together or just some much needed R&R. Either way, he was down for whatever. Honestly though, the latter sounded even more fun than the former at this point. The junker felt drained, literally and mentally.
"You, me, and a little peace sounds divine." He replied with a wink and a smirk, before reaching out to hit the button for their floor. After the lift started to rise Bax started to bob his head slightly from side to side with the upbeat tune that played through the speakers above. The reflection of him in the polished metal seemed funny at first, but he quickly began to ponder if his choice of wardrobe was another thing he should change.
Bax didn't feel like he had to impress anyone, nor care to do so, although it crossed his mind that it might be embarrassing for Kara sometimes to be seen with him looking both touristy and disheveled. It was his thing, but he could completely understand if it unknowingly irked her.
Still, the junker maintained his happy demeanor during the ride, only letting it slip when the doors open to reveal more foliage and branching paths. Confusing directions and jungle seemed kinda redundant. "Uhh...I think it's that way." Bax stated, vaguely remembering the room number from the card sleeve.
Leaving the lift area behind was a relief, as the number of plants reduced from a small botanical garden to a few potted plants between each room door. At the risk of looking forgetful, he stopped at one that seemed close enough to the number he recalled to give it a try. Bax was fully prepared for failure, so the door actually being the correct one was a pleasant surprise. "Well, there we go."
Seeing as he was taking up most of the doorway up with the luggage anyway, Bax just decided to go in first this time around. He had to give the hotel credit, this room was about as close as you could get to a real jungle without putting your life in danger. The floor was a vast sea of textured hard wood it seemed, the walls were a long rolling mural of what it had to be outside the domed city, and the huge round bed in the corner had a comforter resembling a blanket of healthy leaves. The balcony almost went unnoticed.
"Wow..."
