Name: Kyra Aeris Itera
Species: Human
Faction: Fringe
Occupation: General all-purpose Pilot, part-time Smuggler
Age: 29
Height: 1.65 m
Weight: 59 kg
Appearance:
The first thing everyone notices about Kyra is her eyes. Wide and bright, they’re the color of frost, a light blue, and with a gaze that seems to pierce you from every direction. Though your eyes may want to wander the rest of her body, especially to her ample chest or curvy hips, most people always find themselves coming back to Kyra’s eyes, and fixating themselves on the big, blue orbs. This, along with Kyra’s smooth, quiet backwater voice has charmed many a spacer when she’s needed it the most.
Though most of the time, Kyra’s icy gaze is partially hidden by her brown, wavy hair. Kyra absolutely hates trying to tame the locks. She refuses to try and tie it back, doing so only when absolutely necessary, such as when wearing a flight helmet. And the first thing Kyra does when taking off said helmet is let her hair loose. One of the few rare people that can roll out of bed with perfect hair, Kyra does little more than wash it thoroughly every day, letting the locks frizzle and wave and curl all on their own.
Kyra’s most common piece of attire is her flightsuit. While operating starfighters, starships, and atmospheric craft, Kyra dons a suit similar to the infamous orange suit that has begun to crop up in rebel and terrorist cells across the Galaxy. The only difference is that Kyra’s jumpsuit is maroon instead of orange, and she has replaced the black gloves and boots with grey ones. Unless she’s in a vehicle that requires it, Kyra goes without the flak jacket and life support system.
At other times, Kyra can be found in more regular clothes. Usually donning a worn Corellian Engineering Corporation or Rendili Stardrive tank-top, over dark blue jeans, both of which hug her body and show off her well endowed curves. Over the tank top goes a cropped leather jacket, brown in color, that barely reaches past her chest. Almost always Kyra wear a brown, hardy belt which carries her blaster on her right hip, and most of the necessary tools she might need for a ship. Finishing off the ensemble is a pair of worn, tan boots that looks like the woman has had forever, and a pair of gloves suitable for both flying and working in her back pocket.
Something that most people are privy to see that Kyra keeps on her person at all times is a necklace. Two rings are kept on it, one silver with a large diamond and the other with three woven bands of silver, copper, and gold. They belonged to Kyra’s parents as wedding rings, and she had used them herself, when she was married. Though Kyra’s marriage had ended horribly, they still hold sentimental value to her, and is one of the only things she has from her late mother. Kyra hopes, one day, to pass them down to her own daughter. But for now they hand on long but thin golden chain, just below her large breasts and under her shirt. Kyra has often thought about changing the chain to a shorter one or adding more charms, but every time she does, it just doesn’t “feel” right, and she changes the necklace back to how it originally was, when she got it from her father.
Personality:
One of the first thing Kyra will tell you when you meet her is that she prefers to go by her middle name, Aeris, and that she hates her first name. And that will be about the extent of your conversation with the woman. Kyra is a timid, quiet person and quite apologetic, even for things she has no control over. She tries to avoid confrontation as much as possible by remaining quiet and accepting things, or being rather submissive. If she needs to, she runs. And her blaster is only there for when her back is against the wall, or incase her ship in invaded.
Kyra is an easy person to intimidate, being as short and not so bulky as she is. As well as the fact that she’d rather not call someone’s bluff as be wrong, as she values her life. Keeping to herself most of the time, there has to be a good reason for the shy pilot to work with a partner or a crew. If she does, however, she prefers to take on the position of ‘seen, not heard’. Afraid that something she says will be taken the wrong way and met with force, she’d rather just get the job done, and get paid, while others bicker about their means and ways.
To this end, Kyra is a skiddish and closed off person. It takes little to scare her. And if the person who scared her ever tries to make amends, they could try forever and get no where. People almost have to pry, in order to learn anything about her. Only those that Kyra feels safe and comfortable with, is she open with, which is close to no one while she’s away from home. This has made many prospective relationships nearly impossible, as it takes a lot for anyone to prove themselves to Kyra. They’d have to be sweet, and kind and understanding of how she is, and most beings in the Galaxy are far from one of these things, let alone all three.
Though on her ship and while flying, Kyra is a whole other person. When she gets behind the controls she becomes a smartass, and cocky about her skills as a pilot. The reason for the sudden change whilst is flying is simple - Kyra knows she’s in control, when she’s in the sky. When it’s her ship, she can kick you off and use her blaster if she needs too. Control isn’t a lot of something that Kyra has felt her entire life. And when she gets even a bit of it, she takes it and runs. Flying is something of a safety blanket for her, so to speak. One of the only few places in the Galaxy she feels it’s fine to be herself. To her, it’s sort of like the holonet, where people can be completely different than who they are in real life.
The one thing that keeps driving Kyra as she goes from job to job, planet to planet, is her daughter Rhea. Rhea is Kyra’s entire life, and the one thing she loves more than anything. Kyra works night and day, making sure that Rhea has all she needs. She tries to raise her as best as a single parent can, and make sure she has a better childhood than Kyra ever did. Rhea melts Kyra’s heart constantly, and is the one and only thing that Kyra is openly aggressive over, towards other people. Just as Kyra would do anything to provide for Rhea, she’d do anything to keep her safe, as well.
History:
Birth - 33 BBY
Young couples often make mistakes. This was exactly the case for Brenn and Ellie Itera, who were both only twenty years old when the started dating, and thing got serious. In 32 BBY Ellie became pregnant with the married couple’s first, and soon to be only, child. The pregnancy was more demanding on Ellie that it normally would be, as the young woman had erratic heart conditions. Brenn tried to make things right, and the couple married, but for the sake of their child more than anything. It wasn’t that they didn’t love each other, more so that they were unsure just yet of what they wanted out of life. Though the marriage would be very short-lived, as it turned out.
Brenn and Ellie’s daughter, whom they named Kyra, was born early into the year of 33 BBY. But because of Ellie’s heart condition, she passed away during the childbirth, leaving Brenn as a new, young father with a little girl and no sort of help. It was then that he made the decision to keep Kyra close, love her, and provide for her in any way he could. He could’ve given her up for adoption, or abandoned her, but Brenn was more responsible than that.
Other than growing up without a mother, Kyra grew up just like any normal kid on the planet of Ukio. A long bus ride in the morning into town, for school. Playing outside in the farm fields, rather than staying pent up indoors. Meanwhile, Brenn ran a spaceport out in the middle of nowhere that was little more than a landing field, a few sheds for hangars, and a tavern. The young father employed a crew of various astromechs and DUM-series pit droids for service on starships, but an older lady ran the tavern, a blue Twi’lek named Teff’ith. She was almost part of the family, treating Kyra as her own and helping Brenn with all the chores he couldn’t get to, when she had the time.
The young Kyra, never knowing any better, would occasionally ask her father about her real mother. Brenn always dodged and danced around the question. Instead, he started to have Kyra help him when he was doing maintenance on starships, to try and distract her from such things and teach her something she’d really use someday. This worked almost too well, as the eager young girl soon fell in love with starships, and would rather stay home and help her father then go to school.
The spaceport that Brenn ran didn’t always see the business he wanted, or even needed. Though he tried to keep Kyra away from his money troubles, the strain that the man experience to make ends meet could been seen by all. That was when the unexpected happened. A Kel Dor spacer landed his highly modified YT-1300 at Brenn’s spaceport, went into town, and didn’t come back for a day. And then two. Finally, when the third day came, Brenn wanted his money. He inquired in town, but no one had a definite lead on the alien.
So Brenn sold his ship.
The Kel Dor was never seen again, perhaps ran afoul of a swoop gang or his business turned sour. Brenn didn’t care. The money was hard to pass up, and most definitely needed. And when he told his brother, Hiram, about what had transpired, Hiram had an idea. To moonlight as ship thieves. Hiram’s reasoning was that they didn’t need to steal a ship a night, or go after big, expensive ones. Just enough to get by, and for Brenn to make things comfortable for Kyra.
It was a tough dilemma for Brenn. On one hand, he didn’t want to turn to crime. On the other, he needed the money, and he needed to take care of Kyra. It took Brenn nearly a month to decide, but when he finally did, he decided to start working with his brother. They used the spaceport as a front, and Hiram started up a junkyard to go with it. When Teff’ith found out what was happening, she didn’t turn Brenn in, but she left, not wanting to be involved. Kyra cried over the Twi’lek’s departure all night long, but was no more aware of what her father was doing.
The Clone Wars - 22 BBY
Kyra was eleven years old, when the Clone Wars started. It seemed like such a distant thing at first. Life continued on as normal. Brenn was rolling in money thanks to his illegal activities, and he always made sure Kyra had everything she needed. It took a full year for the War to interrupt their lives like so many others across the Galaxy. The Battle of Ukio was short, as Kyra and Brenn watched the explosions and ships high in the sky. And when it was all said and done, the Confederacy controlled the planet.
Little changed for the two of them. Their tax money went into different pockets, that was all. Brenn never cared much for either the Republic or Separatist, a trait that was passed on to Kyra. Though the difference in government did bring a few more ships to their spaceport, mostly mercenaries as they were so close to the Republic border for a long time. And then it was only a couple short years later that the Empire came around. There was little change there, too, aside from the fact that things were a little more strict inside the city. Kyra barely noticed.
At the age of fourteen, Brenn finally taught Kyra how to fly. Using the man’s old T-16 Skyhopper, Kyra took to the skies one summer and never came down. The teen found that she just absolutely loved flying. She wasn’t the smoothest pilot; a lot of Kyra’s landings were on the rough side, and Brenn made her repair more than one bent landing gear. But Kyra came by the rest of it almost naturally. That, along with a lot of the repair work her father had taught her, and Kyra knew what she wanted to do in life, after school.
The Slippery Slope - 18 BBY
Though the chance to get involved with ships came sooner than she expected, and definitely not in the way Kyra wanted. It was the same summer that she learned how to fly that Kyra figured out her father and uncle were ship thieves. Shocked at first, she didn’t know how to respond. Kyra understood why they did it, but it felt so wrong. Though Brenn’s reasoning and logic made it through to his daughter; never taking excess, only what they needed.
It took Kyra a long time to accept the fact, but it didn’t change the love she had for her father. And though it took even longer, a whole year in fact, Kyra slowly started to get into the ship hijacking business with Brenn. Always her father’s little helper, Kyra soon learned how to start a ship without ignition codes, how to change transpoders, and how to scavenge all the right parts out of an engine or hull. Hiram, Kyra, and Brenn all working together made a good team, and they were very successful for a lot of years.
Unfortunately though, their spaceport started to get a reputation for stolen starships, driving away what was in Kyra’s mind the “right” people, and bringing in the “wrong” ones. Since the spaceport was small enough to escape most notice from the Imperials but big enough to service most personal ships, it became a sort of hub for illegal contraband to pass through onto Ukio. Everything from spice to weapons and even stowaways. But Brenn refused to deal with anyone who kept slaves, and didn’t let them land.
Helping her father during the summers with the ship-theft ring he had going, Kyra found ways to make herself money during the school year - namely racing. Taking the Skyhopper that Brenn had taught her on, Kyra tuned it up, and soon enough there wasn’t a pilot that lived on Ukio that could beat her. Though a few called foul because Kyra was known to race dirty, in her mind, anything was fair as long as she reached the finish line first.
This racing made Kyra increasingly popular in school, and the teenager felt like she had it all. She could have anything she wanted, or so she thought. Kyra dated the cutest boys she could find. She “experimented” with some of her girlfriends. She was always invited to the loudest, most rambunctious parties where spice and alcohol were rampant. Simply put, Kyra one of the most popular kids her age, and quite a bit of a “party girl”. Combined with a faltering relationship with her father, and Kyra life was quickly turning downhill, if someone looked on from the outside.
At the age of seventeen, Kyra plowed her T-16 Skyhopper into a farming field. Though she survived with minor injuries, the Skyhopper was a wreck. Brenn had to bail his only daughter out of jail after an Imperial patrol picked the young woman out of the wreckage. After this, Kyra’s father felt that he had to take control of her life for her, which only hurt their once great relationship all the more. After school, Kyra worked around the spaceport as the chief mechanic, and Brenn hired on more help for her, getting rid of most of the droids to make things less than easy on her.
Leaving Home - 11 BBY
Kyra was miserable for the few years following school. She still lived at home, and she worked for her father. Brenn tried to not let Kyra leave the spaceport, afraid that she’d just go try and find another party or more spice and alcohol. To be fair, that was exactly what Kyra did every time she snuck away. But none the less, she felt trapped, like a prisoner in her own home. She had wanted to fly the stars after school. Not work on ships for ungrateful captains, or help her father and uncle steal ships for extra credits.
A few years of this passed, and Kyra did make a few friends around the spaceport. Most notably an R5 astromech who was a grouch and a troublemaker, but turned loyal to Kyra after the droid crossed a not-so-friendly spacer, and she came to it’s rescue. Kyra had suspicions that the R5 used to be an Imperial droid, since it was painted all black, and she thusly nicknamed it Quasar. Quasar soon became Kyra’s shadow, following the young woman everywhere and causing everyone else that wasn’t her trouble.
Someone else that Kyra made a quick acquaintance with was one of the other mechanics that Brenn had hired. A young man just about Kyra’s age named Dayton. Dayton wasn’t from Ukio, having run away from home the soonest he could, a story that Kyra could understand, and wanted to relate too. It didn’t take long for the two of them to build up a report with one another, or for Kyra to fall in love with the handsome mechanic. At Dayton’s invitation, Kyra packed up all her bags and moved into town, moving into the young man’s small flat. She even quit working for her father, taking up a part-time job at a speeder parts store in town. After that, it didn’t take Kyra and Dayton very long to get married.
As Kyra moved away and got married, her relationship with her father slowly began to heal. Brenn helped pay for the wedding, even giving the young couple his own and Kyra’s mother’s wedding rings, which Kyra insisted to Dayton that they used. As her relationship with Brenn started to turn back around, Kyra even decided to have the wedding at the spaceport, the place she had known as home all her life.
Kyra was twenty two at the time, and very much in love. So much so that she overlooked some of Dayton’s worse flaws, thinking that she could help him - his excessive drinking, and a deep held rage. For two years, things were finally looking up, or so Kyra thought. And when she was twenty four, the couple finally had their first child. A little girl that they named Rhea. She had Dayton’s blonde hair, her mother’s intense blue eyes, and Kyra thought she was absolutely perfect.
Married Life - 9 BBY
Rhea changed Kyra’s life. Upon finding out she was with child, she immediately gave up drinking, and spice. And when Rhea was born, Kyra quit her job and stayed at home to take care of the little girl. Dayton made enough to take care of his family, and Rhea meant everything to Kyra. She didn’t want her daughter in some daycare, only seeing her parents at night or on weekends. She wanted to have a hand in raising her little girl.
Dayton was changed as well, with the birth, but not in a good way like Kyra was. The man started to drink more, and on more than one occasion he got violent. He started hitting Kyra, and abusing her. The first few times, Kyra hit back. But Dayton was stronger than she was, and Kyra quickly learned not to fight back. Then she thought that maybe sleeping with Dayton more would help. It didn’t. At first, she quickly rationalised that Dayton was drunk when he did these things, and no matter what, Kyra still loved her husband. But then Dayton started to hit her when he wasn’t drinking. And Kyra rationalised again that as long as she took it and didn’t say a word, he wasn’t going after Rhea.
The few times that Rhea, who was now a little toddler, saw her father hitting her mother, Kyra quickly scooped the little girl up afterwards and reassured her that everything was alright. Kyra kept Rhea as innocent to everything going on as she possibly could. No matter what happened, the young mother was determined that she was going to take care of her daughter. Even if that meant staying with Dayton, so that Rhea had a father. Which, soon enough, was the only reason that Kyra stayed married to the man.
Scampering - 4 BBY
But then, one night, Dayton came home more drunk than usual. By now, Kyra was used to this routine. Kyra, almost by habit, tried to be nice with the man. Hoping that it would help. But it didn’t, and she was hit. But that wasn’t enough for Dayton. Rhea saw what happened, and now was five. She screamed at her father to stop, only to receive a smack across the face herself. Now, Kyra believed there was nothing wrong in spanking a child when they needed discipline. But this was far from correcting Rhea.
That was when Kyra knew that something had to change. She couldn’t let Rhea stay with Dayton if he was going to start hitting her as well. When her husband passed out in bed, Kyra packed up everything that was important to her and her daughter, scooped up Rhea, and left without even a note. Kyra ran back to her father, explained everything that had happened, and told him that she wanted to leave Ukio and start anew.
Brenn agreed to help, after Kyra had to stop him from going after Dayton. Giving Kyra one of the most recent ships he had stolen, a HWK-290 light freighter named The JackRabbit, Kyra left the next morning. But not before Quasar, the old R5 she had made friends with, scampered onboard the frieghter. He gave Kyra hell for leaving him behind when she got married and declared that she wasn’t ever going anywhere without him, again.
As Kyra lifted off from the spaceport, she watched from the ship as Dayton pulled up, hot on her tail. Brenn confronted the man, some words were exchanged, and as Dayton moved towards Brenn, Kyra’s father pulled out a blaster and blew away the man’s kneecaps. Glad that that was no longer a problem, Kyra felt free for one of the first times in her life, finally making her home among the stars, with her little girl besides her.
New Friends - 4 BBY
A little after a month into being out on her own with Rhea, Kyra had pulled into a spaceport on Halbara. Down on her a luck just a bit, the young mother found the rates reasonable. At least, at first she did. That was until the monsoon started to roll in, and the spaceport started to throw every fee in the book at her. Kyra tried just leaving, but the guards (who were little more than just hired thugs), wouldn’t let her. And Kyra, being as timid as she was, was well enough intimidated to bend to their will.
As she was starting to panic a bit a large, burly man with a huge shield, and honest to goodness shield, came over and wasted no time bashing one of the guys into the swamp below. The second guard was taken out by the man’s sister. Kyra soon learned their names, Aldir and Alanka Varad. Grateful, and a little taken by Aldir (which was offset, however, by the way Alanka intimidated her), Kyra paid the pair back with the only thing she could - a free ride wherever they wanted. And after that… Kyra just decided to stick around. She agreed to be the pair’s pilot, as long as she got a fair cut of whatever jobs they came across.
Miscellaneous Crap:
So, first things first, this is my first character of the opposite gender. So please bear with me in all that happens with her. Everything from the app to any posting I do is all something new to learn. Thanks!
Next, Kyra owns several pieces of equipment, as follows
x1 HWK-290 Light Freighter, named The JackRabbit. Only modification is a hidden smugglers compartment as seen here
x1 ELG-3A Blaster Pistol
x1 Flightsuit, completely with flak jacket, helmet, and life support system. Maroon in color.
x1 R5 Series Astromech, nicknamed Quasar. Has never had a memory wipe. Painted black. Thought to have once belong to the Imperials, but unconfirmed.
x1 BARC Speeder Bike, stripped of weapons, complete with sidecar. Painted blue.
