The Victory II Class Imperial Star Destroyer Irresistible was laid down in 10 BBY. Typically speaking the Victory Class was deemed a 'second rate' capital ship, with many of the first models auctioned off or decommissioned. The Victory II, a more modernized variant design, never fully supplanted the older design, however it has excellent performance and design features.
The Irresistible is, specifically, a Victory II G-Variant. The key differences between a standard configuration and a G-Variant can be summarized easily. The G is essentially structured to better emphasize the ship's deep-space capabilities. Its powerful engines have been upgraded to higher efficiency, and are paired with enhanced armor and hull strength, the forward observation strut has been removed to reduce the target profile of the tower, and the ship's communications capabilities have been dramatically enhanced.
Visually there are few clues to the variant, but the capabilities of the G are optimized for long duration space assignments.
The Irresistible is known for having a somewhat eclectic crew who have not fully embodied the Empire's select values of unconditional and flawless obedience. Those aboard have their share of problems and poor evaluations, or are those whose careers have been capped as they lack the zeal and quality of Palpatine's New Order.
Yet perplexingly to the Admiralty, the Irresistible has a high degree of combat efficiency, and those crew who didn't fit in elsewhere perform quite adequately there. The Irresistible is the square peg that successfully fits into the round hole, to the bafflement of many.
