Appearance: Ishandon Ray is very punchable. He is also immensely handsome. He has a terrible kind of suave smugness about him that you don't tend to find outside the highest echelons of society. He has dark hair, on the border between wavy and curly, impressively tan olive skin, and an immensely dignified goatee. Quite often he doesn't wear the standard uniform, he typically prefers lavish clothing of silk robes and collars. When he does opt for more traditional formal wear, he likes to accompany the usual olive drab with colorful sashes and medals. Sometimes he opts for white tie evening dress. He's an extremely vain man, but that also means he knows how to be an extremely good-looking man.
Personality: Some people tend to become more unlikeable the more you get to know them. Ishandon is one of these people. At first he seems a little bit arrogant, but his well-spoken manner and personal charisma more than make up for it. Then you realize not only is he arrogant, but he doesn't seem capable of thinking about other people in more than a very superficial and passing way. By the time you do realize what he likes, it's really too late to avoid being associated with him. He likes himself, and he likes prestige. He likes being with more important people and growing his own power.
Lastly, he likes fine things. Some by their own rights, others because they are seen as elite.
The difference between Ishandon Ray and his ex-wife Cryseniah Seyda is that she goes to opera because she enjoys it, and he goes because he likes to be seen there in fine attire.
History:
Ishandon was born in 47 BBY, on Coruscant. His father, Kadrir Ray, was the junior Senator from Rendili, and a very ambitious man in his own right. He instilled lessons in his only son: Knowledge is indeed power, and knowing the right people can make all the difference in the universe. No expenses were spared. Ishandon Ray went to a fine prep academy on Chandrila. He learned to debate, to persuade, and to use rhetoric. The knowledge of when to use many words and when to use few was firmly a part of his knowledge. He had no trouble finding a place in Coruscant's Academy of Political Study, a very prestigious boarding school indeed. While there he was in their Mock Trial program, their Model Senate, and their Lacrosse team. He was essentially a walking and talking resume animated by some mad scientist hellbent on perfect job placement.
War was looming in 25 BBY, and Kadrir astutely realized his son could use some vaguely military experience. He pulled a few strings and Ishandon was admitted to a Reserve Officer Qualification Course at Anaxes War College. It was there that Ishandon met a charming and well-spoken cadet there from Empress Teta, who also had a voice that could induce a male orgasm through careful word choice. He began to court Cryseniah Seyda, very satisfied with her Human pedigree. Seyda's family was cultured and comfortably middle class, not elite like his, but capable of existing in the same social sphere. It was a Good Choice he told himself. He also impregnated her with twins and had to move faster than gestation.
He proposed with a wedding ring that could have bought a dozen slaves in Hutt Space, and the two were married on Coruscant in a lavish ceremony. Given the well-publicized loyalty of the Ray family in face of treacherous sentiments on Rendili, Chancellor Palpatine himself sent a wedding gift. It was an exquisite set of crystal drinkware. He was, regrettably tied up in a political crisis at the moment, as the note said, or otherwise he would have attended. After a very wonderful honeymoon, albeit a short one, Seyda returned to the front and Ray entered the Commission to Preserve the Old Republic. His big break came in 20BBY, when a coups on Rendili brought the planet under Separatist sway. In lieu of his absent father he delivered a fiery hour long speech to the Senate denouncing the treachery and pledging the absolute loyalty of Rendili, and the burden his family had to restore the rightful rule of the Republic without delay or rest. He then proceeded to have a nice rest in his apartment before he was formally introduced to Chancellor Palpatine.
The twins were an awkward position for his early career, so they remained with Seyda's parents, and he didn't give them very much thought.
When his wife was injured he visited in the hospital, but he was delayed by the regime change. His careful positioning allowed him a place in COMMPNOR straight away. The result was a new wave of prestige, particularly given his decorated military wife who had sacrificed an eye for the cause. He never hesitated to show her off to the others at the Opera House or at a cocktail party. It was a short period of stability though. Humans were in, aliens were out, and Ishandon didn't feel any compulsion to defend the nonhumans. Nor did he feel any need to speak out against the racial policies. In fact when pressed he always insisted on playing 'devil's advocate' to Cryseniah. The two argued often. The birth of their son Vellas in 16 BBY didn't help, and they arranged a negotiation. Seyda returned to the Fleet, commanding a ship, and Ishandon would rule the Homefront and see to Vellas' education. The older siblings were likewise educated, though perhaps not as well. They weren't intended to have real careers but to float around society and eventually pick up noteworthy husbands.
Of course he mostly delegated that. His time was busy with cocktail parties. Additionally he was very interested in the very eligible young heiress to the Vor Kroya family, Siyala Vor Kroya. They were an esteemed core family with nearly limitless wealth, and she had the majority of the family holdings. He started an affair with her, and had his trusted aides offer Cryseniah a fair deal for divorce. She'd get a real command, a rarity for women these days, and in exchange he could move on liability-free. It worked too, he was designated Moff of the Bright Jewel Sector, alternating his time between a lavish mansion on Ord Mantell and a ritzy Republica apartment on Coruscant.
